How do I stay responsible for an AI answer?

Decide what the answer needs to do, then check the details that could affect another person or a decision.

Short answerSet the purpose yourself. Give AI only information you are allowed to share. Check factual claims against reliable sources, look for missing information, and do not use the answer if it cannot be checked.

Use a review loop

  1. Define the decision, audience, constraints, and standard.
  2. Ask AI to write a starting version, compare options, or prepare questions.
  3. Check claims using the original source or an authoritative source.
  4. Review who could be affected and what the answer leaves out.
  5. Edit in your own voice and take responsibility for the result.

Watch for false confidence

Fluent language is not evidence. Treat dates, names, figures, quotations, and cited authorities as unverified until you check them.

Keep a stopping rule

Stop using the model if the task contains information you cannot share, the answer cannot be checked, the consequence of error is serious, or a qualified professional is required.
