Start with work, not adjectives

“Experienced leader” tells a reader very little. Write down situations where you assigned work, resolved a disagreement, changed a process, or made a decision with incomplete information. Note your role, what you did, and the evidence available.

Include work outside your formal title if it is relevant and accurate. Do not enter confidential client details, personnel records, or internal strategy into an unapproved tool.

Compare the work beneath the job title

A public job description may use unfamiliar language for work you already know. Ask AI to map each requirement to the underlying activity, then to your evidence. Require a quote from your inventory for every suggested match. A blank is useful: it tells you what not to claim.

  • Direct match: you did the stated work and can give an example.
  • Partial match: you did related work but would need to learn part of the role.
  • No evidence: you cannot support the claim from your inventory.

Turn the comparison into a truthful story

Choose two or three examples that show a decision, an action, and a result you can verify. Rewrite the AI wording so it sounds like you. If the role requires an unfamiliar system or qualification, identify that gap openly and decide whether to address it before applying.

  • Did the tool turn a related task into a qualification you do not have?
  • Which gap calls for learning rather than better wording?
