Start with permission and fit

If your employer has approved an AI assistant, begin there. Workplace accounts may have different data protections and administration controls than personal accounts. Ask what information is permitted before pasting work material into any tool.

For personal use, the best first tool is usually the one you can open easily, understand, and test without moving your entire workflow.

Compare a real task, not feature lists

Feature lists age quickly. A better comparison uses the same task, source material, and review standard. Try a meeting agenda, a summary of a public article, or a draft based on your own non-sensitive notes.

  • How much context did the tool need before the answer became useful?
  • How much editing did the draft require?
  • Could you find and understand the privacy controls?
  • Does the tool fit the documents and devices you already use?

Do not build your identity around a tool

The transferable skill is explaining a task, supplying reliable material, and reviewing the result. Interfaces and model names will change. Your review habit will remain useful across tools.

Practise on real work

Run a two-tool comparison

Choose a public or non-sensitive document of one to three pages.

Prompt to adapt

Summarize this document for a busy manager. Start with the decision or main point. Then list evidence, open questions, and anything that should be verified. Use only the attached material.

Judgment checks

  • Which answer stayed closest to the source?
  • Which answer was easiest to review?
  • Which interface made it easiest to correct the result?

Keep these points

  • Workplace permission comes before preference.
  • Compare tools on the same real task.
  • Review skills last longer than product features.
