Match the tool to where the work lives

If your organization already provides an approved assistant, begin there. Microsoft Copilot may fit work centred on Microsoft 365, while Gemini may fit a Google-based setup. ChatGPT and Claude can be useful general assistants for writing, analysis, and working with supplied material. Availability and data protections differ by plan and workspace.

Do not buy several subscriptions before testing a task. Free access or an approved workplace account is enough to learn whether an assistant fits your way of working.

Use one comparison task

Give each candidate tool the same non-sensitive source and instruction. Ask for an output you understand well, such as a meeting brief or a rewrite of public text. Record how much context, correction, and formatting each result needs.

  • Can you find and understand its privacy and history controls?
  • Does it work with the files and devices you already use?
  • Does it show uncertainty and stay close to your source?
  • Can you review the answer without learning a complicated interface?

Choose for the next 90 days

Choose one tool for one or two recurring tasks and use it long enough to develop a review habit. Revisit the decision when your work changes, your organization approves another option, or the product changes its terms or controls.

The durable skill is explaining the task, supplying good material, and checking the result. That skill transfers when product names and plans change.
